The skateboard art show Bordo Bello attracts artists from around the nation every year to expand awareness of AIGA and raise money for local charity.
This 2011 entry, titled "War Paint," began as a study in the skate deck's finely tuned, fluid form, a piece of art in its own right. Without concrete, this uniquely sculpted form would not exist.
This led to the idea of casting original wood deck in concrete, uniting the origin and the product into one form. The Native American inspired patterns are a social commentary on the similarities between historical skating culture's open, borderless view of the concrete jungle, and the plains tribes view of the open range.
Both views stand in the face of traditional Western culture.

Cast concrete, acrylic, spray paint.
